about us
The Projektverein für Akademische Kultur an der RWTH Aachen (PAK for short) e.V. is a student initiative. We are a team of students from a wide range of disciplines who came together in 2007 to promote Aachen’s cultural and event landscape in the best possible way for students. Our aim is to promote and organize interdisciplinary events at RWTH Aachen University in order to enrich student and social life with cultural events.
Our most important events are undoubtedly the Volunteer Award and Active Party, the Studifest and the Maths Pre-Course Party, which all take place annually. With the Volunteer Award and the Active Party, we want to express our appreciation and gratitude to volunteers for their commitment and provide an opportunity to network with each other. At the Studifest, students can show the citizens of Aachen that they do more than just study. Student councils, student organizations and clubs, cultural groups and the AStA present themselves with colourful stands on the Aachen market. With music and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s easy to strike up a conversation. First-year students can get to know their future fellow students and current pre-course colleagues at the pre-course math party. We also try to support other student groups with their projects and events, be it with technology that can be borrowed, know-how or simply man-power at the numerous student events at RWTH.
We would love to organize more activities for you and are open to all ideas. So why not drop by and join in?

rental
The PAK has a wide range of accessories for small to large events. We also lend these out on request.
The following items are currently available for hire:
- Music systems
- 5x bar tables
- Folding pavilion (3x3m)
- mulled wine cooker
- Minigolf set
Conditions for the rental of other items on request. In the event of loss or damage, the costs incurred must be reimbursed in full.

prize for outstanding student commitment
tldr: We would like to award the prize for outstanding student commitment at RWTH Aachen University for the second time! Please submit your proposals at [1] by 2.02.2024. We are also looking for people for the selection committee.
Long version: At the end of April 2024 we will award the prize for outstanding student engagement for the second time under the patronage of Prof. Rüdiger. What you all do daily in student councils, initiatives, committees, and the AStA is enormously important, but the appreciation of this often comes too short. Therefore, we would like to give your commitment visible appreciation with this award and make the diversity of your commitment better known. Thanks to Sparkasse Aachen the award once again includes prize money.
To reflect the diversity of commitment, we have decided on four different categories. The subcategories form the corresponding requirements.
- Individual
- An active student enrolled at RWTH Aachen University
- active volunteer at/with the RWTH
- Project
- at or with the RWTH
- must have already started and must not have been completed for more than 2 years.
- Institution
- stud. Institutions at RWTH
- „honorary student”
- not a student
- Person, who supports the student volunteers in a significant way beyond their own job description.
So if you have any ideas about which person, project, or institution is particularly deserving of such an award, feel free to suggest them at [1]. You can also propose yourself, but then letters of support are mandatory.
For the selection of the winners, we would like to establish a committee again. We are looking for one person from the student representatives and one from the initiatives. If more than one person is interested, the person will be chosen randomly.
Please note: Selection committee members cannot win an individual prize.

Louder than Karl 2024

It’s getting loud again on the Templergraben, because the Projektverein akademischer Kultur an der RWTH Aachen e.V. (PAK) is organizing the Metal Open Air „Louder than Karl – Metal on Campus“ for the second time. The aim is to get metal music out of the cellars and bunkers and onto the big stage. To make metal music more visible and thus break with prejudices. It will be unique simply because it is the only live metal open air within the city limits.
Whether you’re a long-time metal fan or a spontaneous visitor, thanks to free admission, anyone can drop by.
